How to manage a sports facility
We at Playsmatch are focused on making sure that our clients offer their customers the best possible experience when they visit them. This is the reason behind the “How to manage a sports facility” campaign being born. We want to share with every sports venue owner/manager some recommendations, suggestions, tips, case studies and best practices that usually contribute in increasing customers’ satisfaction and therefore your earnings as business owner.
This is the first post of our “How to manage a sports facility” series. We hope you find it useful:
Tip #1: Play music at your sports facility
The right music can make any place a better place (well… except maybe a graveyard or a library) and your sports venue doesn’t escape this assertion. Many academic studies back up the positive effects that playing music at a public space can create in people, making them don’t want to leave the place that they are visiting or maybe wanting to spend more time at this place and come back. Playing music at your sports venue can increase the chances of your customers spending some more time on your business, and maybe spending a few more bucks by getting another drink. Maybe renting your spaces for another hour too!
Recent surveys we’ve made evaluating users’ experience of playing at sports venues show that 80% of the customers enjoyed the experience more while there was some music playing in the background. And this better experience will not only be reflected on your customers, but can also benefit your staff. The US National Association of Music Merchants’ CEO, Joe Lamond, stated that “Studies show that music improves the performance in the workplace by reducing the employee’s level of stress and depression, reducing the staff turnover and saving companies a lot of money [self Translation from: https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/265181]”.
“I don’t know where to find the latest and coolest music, what can I do?”
There are many paid apps and software available at the market with playlists that can help you with this. But if you don’t want to invest money on that, there are also many free websites and apps like Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, Google Play Music and even Youtube that can provide this service (with the setback that sometimes you’ll need to here some ads).
Finding the appropriate music for your sports venue may involve studying what are your customers like. It may sound complicated, but you don’t really have to conduct an exhaustive market research to study the music needs of your customers. What it’s really important is simply getting to know your target audience.
“I don’t know what my customers may like, what should I play?”
Here are some basic examples that can help you find that perfect playlist for your sports venue:
- If you run a soccer field, the music should be energetic, lively and vibrant. Playing popular songs that people can sing can help improve the mood of the players. It also keeps a positive and cheerful vibe during the hours they rented your field.
- If you run a tennis facility, we recommend playing something smoother, in a moderate-low volume. This will help the players focus on their game, since this sport may require a higher level of concentration for the players.
We at Playsmatch, have organized many activities and events at sports venues and have been able to test and verify the difference between playing music and not playing music at all. Usually, playing music have made the activities more dynamic, cheerful and fun for the participants.
